On Tuesday the Oslo Department of Water and Sanitation discovered the microscopic Giardia lamblia and cryptosporidium parasites at three locations in the Storo district, an area that along with 80 percent of the capital gets its drinking water from the Oset water treatment plant.
"This is the same bacteria that caused the drinking water epidemic in Bergen," Food Safety Authority district chief Kjetil Berg told Aftenposten.no.
The Giardia epidemic in Bergen in the autumn of 2004 caused at least 6,000 to fall ill and 150 still suffer from nausea, pain and digestive problems.
"After discussions with the FSA, the City's Health and Welfare division and director of communicable disease, a decision has been taken to advise all residents to immediately begin boiling water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth," the Department of Water and Sanitation said in a press release Wednesday morning.
Berg said that he felt the warning had been issued quickly considering that meetings had been held through the night after word of the infection arrived at 11 p.m.
The parasites stem from human or animal excrement.
"One can get stomach and intestinal infection. Symptoms can include stomach pain, diarrhea and pyrosis (heartburn). From Bergen we have unfortunately seen that increasing numbers are ill for an extended period and have symptoms of exhaustion," Berg said.

finally finished my discussion on wad topic to write fer my term paper. but my creative juices have somehow evaporated away. was supposed to do some cutural comparison between cooperate culture in the scandinavian country and maybe SG? which brings me to an incident i had yest wif the the f-uped person who served me at the foreign exchange. Yeiling and i went to get our pounds changed to norwegian kroners, and i was charged 25 kroners fer their so called service but yeiling was not. First, we both changed the same amt, but at different counter, so naturally i went to approached the lady and kindly asked her why did i have to pay tt extra amt. here's her reply.
"oh, its up to us whether we want to charge the extra fees or not. we have the right to include that 25 kroners or exclude it."
that sentence PISSED me off. like wtf kinda of service was that. try saying that if u are working in sg. i bet my ass off that u'll be fired the very next day. so i asked her in a rather pissed tone, wad kind of service is that, isn't is supposed to be standardized or wadsoever.. and her reply was..
"i can always get the 25 kroners from ur fren if u're unhappy wif it"
seriously if not fer that glass window that was hindering me from giving her a punch.. i was so urghhh!! she spoils my day. and i din wanna make yeiling pay tt extra money to that bitch so we left and i just shouted. THIS SERVICE IS CRAP. loud enuff fer everyone to hear me.
yeap. so back to my term paper.. asking me to write abt the norwegian culture? gee.. i hope i dun submit a bias report. cuz tt bitch was not the first to piss me off.. the welfare state here makes them a bunch of f-up employees who dun give a damn abt the kind of service they give to their customers, making them take things fer granted cuz the govt is giving them money fer all sorts of shit reasons. u give birth to a child, u'll get abt US500 till the child turns 3. free education, short working hrs, no work on weekends, all the freaking shops are closed on sundays. like wth la.. grrr..
